Part 2 - The Heart of Evangelism

Going to Battle for God Series

So yesterday we started off the series with the letter “B” for Believer. I mentioned that you must believe that Jesus is the Son of God first. Then you also must believe that by being a believer of Christ, you have to be willing to share how He has changed your life. In order for evangelism to work, you must share the things Christ has done for you because of your belief. You need to tell the unbelieving, the promise that Jesus has made to them. Jesus says in Romans 10:9, “If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

The second letter of “Going to Battle for God” is the letter “A”. I feel you have to be willing to go 'All-In'. What I mean by that, is that you should be willing to do whatever God may ask of you. You should not only be willing to share how He has changed your life, but you are willing to actually do the work that is needed to share God's Love. I believe God wants sharing Christ to be simple and natural. Do you find sharing Christ to be simple and natural in your life? Most do not. Most of us are scared to death to speak about God to strangers. Why are we so scared? Are you scared because you do not know the scriptures very well? Are you scared they may ask you a question that you can not answer? Or are you just embarrassed to talk about Jesus?

May I remind you of this verse in Luke 9:26, “Whoever is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when He comes in His glory and in the glory of the Father and the Holy Angels." Pretty scary don't you think? How many of us felt the Holy Spirit prompt us to share Christ with someone, but we did not? It has happened to me several times. I do not feel in my heart I was embarrassed about sharing Christ as much as it seemed to be just bad timing because of circumstances. Is there such a thing as bad timing though? Can we, or should we use that excuse?

Jesus says this in James 4:14, “Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” Jesus is not going to allow us excuses if He is the reason for putting that person in front of us in the first place. Like the verse says, "we are only here for a little while." We have to be willing to ask God to give us opportunities to share Christ. Have you ever prayed that God would give you people to witness to and share your story? I would say most of us would say, "No." If you never ask or never have the desire to share Christ, why would He put people in your life to do so? Do you want God to send people to you? Would you be willing to share your heart if He did? This is what I am talking about for going 'All-In'. Are you ready and willing to go All-In? Jesus promises He will deliver and answer our prayers if we truly believe they will happen. If it is God's Will that we share Christ with others and we truly have the desire to do so, why on earth would God not put people in our lives so as to do just that?

Matthew 11:24 says, “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours."

God bless,
E.
