How Jesus Fought Temptation
the Series
If you will recall in Matthew 4:11, it says, "Then the devil went away, and the angels came to care for Jesus." You may be wondering why I'm bringing that up, or the importance behind it, but I could not help but think of the position Jesus was feeling right then. He had just been tempted three times, and had not eaten in 40 days. Can you even imagine going a week? For me personally, I cannot even go a day without saying, "I'm starving!" During this entire time I believe the angels were watching Him, but God did not allow them to help Jesus. Why do you think that was the case? I believe Jesus had to do it alone as a man to show us it can be done without angels coming to our aid. See, Jesus had what it took to fight the temptations of Satan; and it was in the scriptures! God in His incredible wisdom knew we needed this as well, hence the purpose of providing us the inspired word of God. If the angels came down to help Jesus fight, do you feel we would ever try and learn God's word? Do you think we could get to know God personally without His Word?
Jesus did not have the easy way out because He was God's son. To be frank, Jesus had it worse than we could ever have imagined. His entire purpose was to show you how to fight off sin. How to love each other with all your heart, and to show His love by sacrificing His life for you.
It is my prayer that if you do not know Him in a personal way, that you give your life to Him right now. In John 14:6, Jesus says,"I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
You may be wondering if God ever sends His angels to help us, or do we always just have to rely on quoting scriptures. In my future devotionals I hope to share what scriptures says about angels, and the purpose for their creation. We do know this, they are real, and God is still using them today.
Hebrews 13:2 says, "Don't forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it!"
God bless,
E.
