When you think about loving your neighbor as yourself, do you think God is really talking about your actual neighbor? Or is He referring to anyone you come in contact with? Let’s see what God thinks of people who don't care for others in need and of those who do care.
In Luke 10:26-37, it says, “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?” He answered, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and, Love your neighbor as yourself.” “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.” But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” In reply Jesus said: “ A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was, and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. Look after him, he said, and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have. Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers?”
I like this story of the “Good Samaritan” because it’s a good reminder of how we all should act towards one another and especially to those we see in need. To turn a blind eye and walk on by is really not loving that person, is it? If we love God, and God loves that person who is need, then just maybe He sent you there to help that person. Do you know people who serve and try to help people when they see a need? Are you one that does that without even blinking an eye? I know people who just love to help and always have their eyes peeled looking to bless someone. I really believe this makes God smile. I also believe this story in the Bible is here for a reason. We can benefit by knowing what pleases Him and by doing what is right. I believe people who do this will be blessed here on earth, as well as receive their rewards in heaven. The reward on earth is knowing you’re a good person and that God honored your actions. Thank you church for Joseph’s House and for all the volunteers who make it happen. Because of your heart, you will continued to be blessed here on earth as well as in heaven.
